Gianyar Unveiled Its Hidden Gem of Suwat Waterfall

August 2020 – Bali is not just its beaches. Numerous paths in Bali will take you to untouched places. For those who claimed themselves as an explorer, so, it’s the time for you to discover the secrets that the Island of Gods has hidden far away from the commercial tourist. Suwat Waterfall is one of them to be explored. 

Suwat waterfall is taken from the name of its village and perfect for those who searching for solitude hidden deep in jungles located in Gianyar region, just an hour drive from Denpasar and one hour thirty minutes from Kuta. The waterfall is officially open for the public in September 2019 and managed by Suwat Village itself. Due to the pandemic, the waterfall was closed and reopened in July 2020 for the public by implementing health protocol, providing handwashing near to the entrance ticket box. The entrance fee will be Rp 15.000 for adults and children will be Rp 10.000.  

From the entrance, visitors will be fascinated by the turtle-like gate. And after a few steps from the entrance, the rumbling sound of the waterfall will be heard and it makes you feel the place is cooler by following the winding path stairs for around 5 minutes until you arrive at the spot.  

The turtles carved in the entrance gate are also carved on the rocks near the pond which can be climbed to get a good spot when taking pictures with the background of the waterfall which has a height of about 15 meters. “In the past, there were freshwater turtles in this village. For this reason, we made it an icon in this waterfall by carving it into the entrance gate and the rocks in the spot area. By the opening of this new waterfall, we hope it can support the economic growth in this village. This is to implement the governor regulation number 4 of 2020 concerning traditional villages in Bali." Said Ngakan Putu Dibya, Head of Suwat Customary Village.

The turquoise of the water is irresistible. So, please do not forget to bring your swimsuit and extra clothes to enjoy the refreshing swim. Furthermore, the bamboos kayak also available to be used by the visitors. The waterfall facilitates the changing rooms, toilets, and minibar that provide several of food and beverages. 


The facts of the area are not crowded and photogenic. Means, you can strike your poses undisturbed. In the future, the waterfall will also facilitate the area with a gazebo. Last but not least, please do not litter!
